A global financial communication solutions provider engaged Cognicion to oversee and provide various eDiscovery services, including exhaustive forensic collections for dozens of custodians across the US and abroad, for a complex IP litigation. Cognicion strategically employed a combination of filtering, analytics, and targeted searching to significantly reduce the volume of data subject to review, condensing the overall volume by over 85% and saving our client nearly $1 million in fees.

Cognicion Handles Managed Review for Leading North American Manufacturer

When a leading North American manufacturer faced complaints of different pricing being offered to certain distributors in a foreign country, Cognicion’s managed document review services were engaged to review documents that could provide the company with an understanding of, and risk assessment for, any potential claims under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) or related anti-corruption laws. Review teams were tasked with reviewing documents to determine if any differential pricing, discounts, or other benefits were offered to any distributors with relationships to the foreign government, whether the company knew or should have known about any benefits conferred to foreign officials, and the relationship of any distributors to any foreign officials.

HSR Second Requests

Cognicion manages the review for large Second Request stemming from a $33.5B merger

A DOJ Second Request was triggered when two of the largest defense contractors planned to merge to form a $33.5B company. 1.4TB of data needed to be processed and reviewed within a compressed 30-day timeline. Leveraging analytics, auto-translation technology, two review centers, and seven days a week review, the team was able to produce within the requested timeline and at an estimated savings of $500,000.

Cognicion Reviews Over 3,000 Contracts for Global Energy Resource Company

Our client, a global energy resource company, was on the sell side for one of their subsidiaries.  The deal room documents were voluminous and included over 4,000 supplier and operations contracts. The sell-side had a 30-day deadline to finalize the transaction terms. In addition to price negotiations, the deal required identification of all potential issues that could result in negative consequences from unknown contract terms in the most cost efficient, expedient manner.

The Cognicion team collaborated with the law firm and the client to reverse engineer the client’s standard reporting format to set up a review workflow with key contract provision identification and required coding templates. The workflow included validating the extracted contract provisions as well as summarizing key provisions. Over 3,000 contracts were reviewed and quality controlled, and the client was provided with the requested reporting format on time and on budget.

Cognicion assists in the implementation of an organization’s global privacy program across all 30 operating companies

A large global conglomerate was facing GDPR and other regulatory pressures, and Cognicion was brought in to help manage the implementation of the global privacy programs across all operating companies. The team introduced and rolled out a collaborative project management platform called Teamwork and as a result, the Global Privacy Counsel is successfully implementing the global privacy program and is on track to be compliant by the established deadlines.

Cognicion Assists Oil Company in Timely and Cost-Effective Response to Civil Investigative Demand

A large, international oil company relied on Cognicion after a data breach of personally identifiable information (PII) triggered a civil investigative demand (CID) from the federal government. By leveraging analytics and developing detailed search terms, Cognicion reduced the original population of 175,000 documents down to 60,000 documents for managed review, saving the client over $100,000 and giving counsel time to comply with the CID.

Cognicion Manages Over 14 Terabytes of Data in Multi-District Cyber Litigation

After one of the largest data breaches in US history, Cognicion was selected by an international technology company to effectively manage almost 15 terabytes of data in response to multi-district litigation and a government investigation. Cognicion proposed an innovative yet cost-effective solution tailored to the client’s goals and pertinent to the unprecedented situation. The customized all-in pricing model Cognicion used to provide data processing, hosting, analytics, review, project management, and productions allowed in-house and outside counsel to accurately predict costs and shift the focus to litigation strategy and rolling deadlines.
